I arrived into Albany August 10. I was actually street homeless for about a week. I was scouting out organizations that worked with HIV clients that were homeless/assisted with housing. I was brought to the Albany Damien House and Introduced to Mike. The entire staff was very warm, kind y welcoming. I was told just hang out downstairs. Mike and the other staff in management came back down about 1 hour later as they were scrambling (it was a Friday afternoon) to get me placed. I was offered an apartment move in ready immediately. I have alot of trauma issues and everyone has been beyond understanding y supportive on every level. This is an awesome building with so much to offer its clients/residents. The staff is very inclusive with all residents and attentive. Im (i like to think) am pretty self sufficient y independent but my case manager, Sean, is always there for me when I need that boost of support. The food pantry/weekend meals is really a great program as well as their daily meals. They have many programs that extend beyond the on site residents. They have an excellent on site pharmacy, a fitness room (free weights y cable machines). They have alot to offer

Front desk staff is great. Excellent place and environment. This is great place for LGBTQ Poz Community to have for resources. To bash Alliance but much more friendly and welcoming and really show they are in it to make a difference.

Awful place of “business” tenants are treated like less than and rights violated constantly or without their own knowledge. Even the rights of visitors is violated as soon as you rudely greeted at the front desk where you see the “ power” is asserted oddly enough….

Have waited ten months for housing and still I'm waiting, have been shoved out the door during a emergency when I was mugged when I was there to see a friend anyway? Have not had very good luck there. Is matter of fact they told me to stay away because I should see a friend during an emergency! I'm a little perturbed lately with the staff and surprised that it's being let go of by Perry so carelessly when it's very serious. These people are working for others who need help and have friends just like them living there. We depend on these services. Do not uphold what they stand for is a little disturbing.

Having just become a member during covid I have yet to see the inside of the building which I understand however the staff that I have dealt with have treated me as though I had been there for a long, long time. Their nutrition program is a well needed outreach to our community, while providing its members with quality food and the education to make wise diet choices. I have donated my time and talents for fundraising events that were for the benefit of the Damien Center for over 20 years never realizing the full scope of their programs until last year when I found myself in a position of needing their help and I am so glad they are there!
